Other hand crafted items will include fine art, pottery, glass, wood, floral designs, metal, leather, silver, fabrics and tapestry. Free-form arrangements are artist's forte (Continued from page B6) library to a tree she might admire on a walk along the lake. "I'd think, 'That would be a nice shape.' I draw it to get the form.. .Sometimes I mix forms together - square with round," says the 57-year-old, adding that she enjoys creating free-form arrange ments. However, she does admit that the public often prefers the more tra ditional ones. "Sometimes I do things that I don't really like but have to sell to keep going," she says. "But I love to go to people's homes and measure, and create a cus tom order. When you express yourself, you do for yourself. You feel good about it even if some one else doesn't like it. But when other people like it, it's the top... The satisfaction of doing it is what it's all about. To me that's money." After 14 years in the busi ness, Hamilton says it's time for her to move on. "I'm getting restless. I only do a few shows now. I'm cutting back," she says. "I think my next step is teaching." The Oakville artist also creates coloured beeswax candles that are hol lowed out to hold smaller beeswax can dles. When the inner candle is lit, she explains, the outer candle becomes translu cent and emits a soft coloured glow. Hamilton will be one of 70 artists at the sec ond annual Art and Artisans by the Lake in the arena of Appleby College (540 Lakeshore Rd. W.) on Saturday, April 24th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. "The May Court Club is very good at selecting," says Hamilton. "It will be a top notch show." Art and Arti sans by the Lake will feature fine art, pottery, glass, wood, flo ral designs, metal, leather, silver, fabrics and tapestry. Other Oakville artists involved in the show will include Freder ick Mitchell (watercolour paintings), Keith Rydberg (wood- carvings), Janet Rhind and Kim Kernchan (quilted vests), Karlene Bland (hand-painted items - tables, step stools, rocks, pots), and Marguerite Broten (decora tive and functional pottery). The May Court Club of Oakville will also have a bake sale and cafe on site at Appleby College. Admission is $2. Funds donated this year will be given to Halton Women's Place and the Oakville Chapter of Burlington Breast Cancer Support Services. The Association of May Court Clubs, established in 1898, is a volun teer organization of more than 2,000 Canadian women dedicated to active volunteerism in their communities.
