Oakville goals were scored by Austen Gregoris and Michael Derenzis. Assists went to Robert DeJaray (2) and Bradley Morris. After the first two games, the two teams exchanged memorabilia with each other and enjoyed a pizza party. Oakville played well in the third game, bring ing home a 4-1 win. W ait 'til next year Unfortunately, many of the local schools did not sport a girls midget volleyball team this year, so the Oakville Trafalger team had to travel fur ther afield for competition. They beat every team they played, includ ing Georgetown, O.T.'s nemesis (and even their own parents, one evening). These ener getic, talented athletes love volleyball and prac ticed hard throughout the winter. They can't wait until next season. Undefeated at St Kits tourney HAVIN' SOME FUN: the hockey season was a great success for six-year-old Andrew Oliver (left) and Steven M ann, 7, seen here with their respective Ice Sports Oakville team s, primarily for one im por tant reason. They had a lot o f fun. And fun, after all, seem ed to be the recurring advice that W ayne Gretzky kept com ing back to during his recent retire ment festivities (as he preferred to term them). The Abrex Eagles atom red team went undefeated at the St. Julias CYO Tournam ent in St. Catharines March 14-16. The first three games were high scoring games by Abrex. The opener was an 8-0 win over B urlington including goals by Andrew Johnson, his first o f the sea son. Tania Ganassini was named MVP of the game. Game two was a 9-0 win against St. Denis. Michael Turner had an awesom e game with four goals. Kyle Chapman was named MVP of the game. Game three was a 7-1 victory over St. Julias Eagles. This was the first and only goal scored against goalie Thomas Critikos in round robin play. Andrew Johnson was named MVP of the game. The competition got stiffer in the semifinals but Abrex prevailed 4-0 against Holland Park Flyers, earning Critikos yet another shutout. One of the goals was scored by Andrew Henderson who scored the goal for his grandfather who passed away the night before. Yet, this is not to say the ride to the top was easy. With minor injuries, major practice sessions and lots of school work to keep up to date, it took lots of dedication and will power. Everyone on the team was given an opportunity to play, Although some games were more difficult than others, the team maintained a positive attitude. The playoffs also proved to be exciting. The girls tri umphed over Our Lady of Peace and St. Luke's and went on to face St. Marguerite's in the Oakville finals. The game was intense with all those on the court and on the bench feeling the pressure. In the end, St. Dominic Dragons prevailed. Perhaps the most difficult game was against St. Joe's for the Halton championship. St. Joe's was the only team that was able to defeat the Dragons during the regular season, and the Halton champion ship was a competitive game the whole way through with the score virtually deadlocked through the entire fourth quarter. It could have been anyone's game, but the Dragon's pulled it together in a real team effort. They managed to score two points and end the game up 36-34. The game was so close, it was a shame that someone had to lose. Karen Zmirak made a wonderful contribution to the team during the playoffs and season by being the top scorer.
