LiMehouSeRoBeRt LittLe December is a very busy month at MSB, it is also a "giving" month. It started with an anti- bullying initiative by introducing the "Ran- dom Acts of Kindness" challenge for a week. All students and staff were intentionally and explicitly doing acts of kindness for each other and showing gratitude to one other. The atmos- phere at MSB became more positive and joyful, and we decided to con- tinue for the month of December. We now have daily "Acts of Kindness" challenges, and we post those acts on a board and a window in the office so that they became all covered by daily acts of kindness. Mr. Parker and Mr. Robinson continue with intramurals where stu- dents are learning to play co-operative games. In basketball, students are developing their drib- bling, shooting, passing, and teamwork. The bad- minton team is practicing every Friday morning for the upcoming badminton tournament we are host- ing in the new year. Mr. Londos and Mr. P a r k e r r a n a " M S B Reads" initiative where all students and teach- ers read six books and voted for the book they liked. Most of the stu- dents voted for "Salt in His Shoes", a story about a boy who wanted to be- come a basketball player. The story inspired us that with practice and perse- verance, we can have our dreams come true. Mrs. Londos' grade two class is running a "Kids Café" club to gather donat ions for an animal shelter. Stu- dents sell coffee, tea, or cookies in the school, and they will send the money to an animal shel- ter to help those animals. Students are learning to count money, making tallies, calculating the change, and helping the community. Our Holidays Craft and Concert night was a big success. Our Stu- dent Leaders prepared different craft activities for families. Parents and their children enjoyed spending time togeth- er, doing some arts and crafts followed by the concer t in the gym. Band and choir, under the d i rec t ion of Ms. Lane, performed differ- ent songs and notes to celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah. Mme Medeiros, with Student Leaders, ran a hats, mitts, socks, and toiletries drive. We col- lected all those items for the homeless. It's an extension of our daily acts of kindness where students are learning to give to the community and help those in need. Our last day before the holidays was a Red and Green Spirit day. We wore red and green outfits and we had a celebration assembly in the gym to celebrate the upcoming holidays and to learn more about Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and the New Year. MSB s tuden t s and staff wish the commun- ity Happy Holidays and a happy New Year. Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christ- mas, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy New Year. There is an excitement in the air as the Holidays quickly approach. The staff and students of Rob- ert Little are cramming as much as possible into the final weeks of 2017. Our December began with a wonderful visit from the Acton District High School Bands . We were enter ta ined for almost an hour with Christmas music, clas- sical and modern. It is always a delight for the staff of Robert Little to see our students from previous years return to entertain and catch up. This month our com- munity banded together to raise awareness around the need for toys in Halton by collecting un- wrapped toys for the Tiger Jeet Singh Foun- dation and Miracle on Main Street celebration. On December 11, 45 Robert Little North Stars traveled down to the cele- bration laden with toys. Our Glow Choir sang on the main stage as our families enjoyed some games and breakfast. I n m i d - D e c e m b e r our Primary students launched our wonderful Annual Holiday Concert. Over 300 family and friends came to cheer on our Dancers, Singers and Poetry Readers. We heard songs in English, French and Mi'kmaq, and were dazzled by the Grand Finale complete with glittering lights. What a great kick off to Hanuk- kah, Winter Solstice and Christmas. The students at Robert Little enjoyed showing off their school spirit. We loved participating in our Spirit Week with a differ- ent theme each day. Our week started with some of the most amazing crazy hair ideas we have ever seen. Braided hair into Christmas trees--with ornaments and tinsel-- multi coloured hair with springs...we even had a few "Pippi-Longstock- ing" hairdos. We were pretty happy that the weather was mild as wearing hats for many of our students was not possible. Spirit Days will continue throughout the final week of school, as we build our excitement for the holidays. It wouldn't be the last week of school if we didn't have some awe- some Primary Crafts Centres running. Our students are quite excited to bring home their awe- some crafts...perhaps one will end up under your tree. From the staff of Rob- ert Little we wish all our families who celebrate Christmas a wonderful holiday next week. And to all our families, new and old, near and far; we wish you a wonder- ful holiday season filled with friends, family and this wonderful commun- ity. Happy New Year! December has been a wonderfully busy month at Limehouse. Our school council led an extremely successful Santa Break- fast where they provided a pancake and sausage breakfast for close to 400 people. Many of our lo- cal businesses provided donations for the silent auction offered at the event. On behalf of our students, staff and fam- ilies, I'd like to thank all those that contrib- uted towards the event. We couldn't have done it without your help. The students have also recently performed their Winter Holiday concert. I'm pleased to say it was very well attended by our Limehouse fam- ilies. It's wonderful to showcase our students' talents to such a support- ive and caring audience. Thank you for your on- going commitment to our school performances and events. During the month of December, our grade five students set a goal of collecting 350 non- perishable food items for a local food bank. This was entirely stu- dent-led and organized by them. Their process involved researching an area of need within the community that they could suppor t . They then used their results as part of a math unit of study on data gather- ing and displayed their results. I'm happy to re- port they exceeded their goal. In addition to what the students collected, our families made fur- ther contributions at our recent Holiday concert. It's lovely to witnesses the spirit of giving dur- ing this holiday season. The Town of Halton Hills continues to work with us on creating a safe school zone for our stu- dents. We are working in partnership towards cre- ating asphalt walkways that will help our stu- dents walk to and from school safely, and to- wards making our school zone visible to motor- ists. We'd like to thank Mr. Matt Roj and Tyler Brule from the Town of Halton Hills for working with our school. We'd like to send out another reminder that our school will be having an e-waste and scrap-metal collection on April 21 and 22. As you plan for your winter or spring clean-up i t would be greatly appreciated if you could put your items aside for us. More details about the drop-off loca- tion and times, will be provided closer to the date. We thank you in advance for any contri- butions you can make. On behalf of the Lime- house students, staff and families, we wish every- one a happy and safe Holiday. May you have opportunities to make special family memories and moments where you can rest and look after yourselves. We "thank you" for your continued interest and the ongoing support of our amazing l i t t le school. We look forward to continuing to share our news with you in the New Year through Tan- ner News, our website at lim.hdsb.ca , and through our Twitter account: @ LimehousePS
