In life we loved you dearly, In death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you The day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories. Your love is still our guide, And though we cannot see you you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one the chain will link again. Milton and Halton Hills District Response Unit to focus on Distracted Driv- ing offences during March The 10 officers that cur- rently make up the District Response Unit (DRU) in Milton and Halton Hills have a very broad mandate when it comes to helping keep the community safe. Traffic enforcement is at the top of that list and each officer has a particular enforcement interest be it impaired driving, speeding, commercial vehicle inspec- tions, distracted driving or prohibited and suspended drivers. The need for enforce- ment in all of these areas is ever present, however, there is a clear need to con- tinue to address the concern of distracted driving. This will remain a priority throughout the year but during the month of March DRU officers will be asked to do even more when it comes to distracted driving. Sergeant Rudall who supervises the unit said, "I would like to remind all drivers that the penalty for driving a motor vehicle while holding or using a cell phone is a fine of $400, plus a victim surcharge and court fee, for a total of $490 if settled out of court. If a driver receives a summons or chooses to fight the ticket they could face a fine up to $1,000; upon conviction the driver will receive three demerit points. It's important to remind motorists that it is illegal to hold or use their phones when they are stopped at a light with the exception of calling 911 for an emergency." Rudall added, "These monetary consequences are not insignificant, but the chances of being involved in a collision present a much more alarming risk during which you could be killed or kill someone else. Distraction kills people on our roads. These tragic events happen every day in North America, and I would urge all drivers to avoid using their phones to ensure they keep them- selves, their families and other road users safe." The Halton Regional Police Service remains committed to road safety through prevention, edu- cation and enforcement initiatives. Focus on Distracted Drivers
