Led by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in collaboration with many municipal police services across the prov- ince, the amnesty program is a way to provide cit- izens with a safe way to surrender weapons and enhance public safety. Starting April 1 police will not proceed with weapons-related Criminal Code charges that might otherwise apply to people who are turning in these items as long as they have not been used in the com- mission of a crime. No anonymous submissions will be accepted. Interested gun owners can call Halton Region- a l P o l i c e S e r v i c e 's non-emergency number at 905-825-4747 ext. 8733 to arrange for officers to attend and safely retrieve the weapons. Food trucks, the Easter Bunny, face painting and over half a dozen sponsors rounded out the main event, which was held this time inside the ball diamond.
