"We're delighted to hear that the Laurier/Con- estoga proposal for a new post-secondary campus in Halton Region continues to move forward," Wel- lington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott said. Arnott was in attend- ance at the announcement event and informed the Ontario Legislature of the good news on April 19. "It has been an honour to represent a large part of Halton Region in the Legislature for the past decade," Arnott con- tinued. "I want to express my sincere appreciation to the staff of Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College, our municipal officials, and in par t icu la r Hal ton Regional Chair Gary Carr and Regional Council, as well as the many other local partners who have worked together to bring us to this point." Arnott has been sup- p o r t i n g t h e L a u r i e r project for almost five years, after first being in- formed of it by Dr. Max Blouw, who was then Wilfrid Laurier Univer- sity's President. In recent years, the vet- eran MPP wrote to the Government on many oc- casions, arranged meetings at Queen's Park, spoke about the merits of the Laurier/Conestoga pro- posal in the Legislature several times, and attended a number of related events to show his support. "Laurier is considered to be one of Canada's top comprehensive universi- ties and scores as the top university in the country in terms of student satis- faction," Arnott went on. "It's a perfect fit for our area, and will give generations of students another local option for their post-secondary edu- cation." Congratulations to the Grandpal French Connec- tion group for winning the Walter Mulkewich Com- munity Development Award 2018 on Mon- day, April 16. Every two weeks, this group holds French conversations with students from grades four to seven in French Immer- sion Programs for an hour using Face Time on their iPads. Each student gets 10 minutes with a Grand- pal to help them improve their communication skills in French. What a great intergenerational program. Congratulations are also in order to the winners of the Dart Tournament held at Acton Hillsview Active Living Centre on Tuesday, April 17.
