Community Corner Hillsview report - georgetown By: Florence Riehl Hillsview report - aCton By: Julie Conroy The Mother 's Day Tea was a great success. Thank you everyone who donated their time, baking, prizes and es- pec ia l ly those who attended our tea. The winner of the beauti- ful patio set was Marj McDonough, and the 50/50 was won by Hilda Shannon. A lot of hard work beforehand and behind the scenes hap- pens to make this such a success. Without vol- unteers and the support from the community, it would be impossible to raise the money needed to provide the variety of programs and support we offer at both Hills- view Centers. Everyone enjoyed listening and dancing to John Pebble playing Caribbean and reggae music last Friday even- ing. The next one is on May 25 and will feature the Hawk Nest Band. On Tuesday, May 29 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. there will be a Healthy Active Aging Celebra- tion with free exercise demonstrations, healthy aging displays, prizes and the magic word, free refreshments, snacks and great giveaways. No cost, no registration. Just show up. Following breakfast, the Men's Breakfast Club will be visiting Bill Manes horse farm. I'm sure that it will be most interesting. Maybe they will get some hot tips before we visit Grand River Raceway in June. The men have agreed to allow families to enjoy breakfast with them for the June 26 Family Breakfast. On Wednesday, May 30 we will be playing the Academy course at Blue Springs. They al- ways provide a delicious lunch. We just need mother nature to co- operate with the weather. The next Saturday evening Bingo will be on May 26 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome. We are getting quite a crowd, which of course helps boost the prize money. While playing bid e u c h r e l a s t T h u r s - day afternoon, Doug Kingshott and Roberta Thompson each had a mooner. The Monday mor- ning darts group had a great morning and for a change Evelyn Coleman helped the ladies win all three games by getting a hat trick. There was no 50/50 winner this week, so next week it should be around $120. Friday lunch on May 25 will be soup and sandwiches plus dessert, tea and coffee followed by Bingo at 1:15 p.m. It was great to see so many come out to the Mother's Day Social and enjoy the sweet sounds of the Jazz Trio. Hope all had a great Mother's Day. So many thank yous for a sellout crowd at the Spr ing Fashion Show. First, to North- ern Reflections and Alia Tan/Jay for supplying the fashions, and to our models all dressed up and strutting their stuff. Thank you to all who baked and donat- ed the cakes our guests enjoyed. Thank you to all who helped to set up and prepare in the kitch- en. It truly does take many hands to make a success of any of the programs at the Centre. Congratulations to Gloria Barker and Sheila Shanks from HALC Georgetown who won the gold medal at the recent Bid Euchre tour- nament. They will be representing Halton Dis- trict no. 21 at the 2018 Summer Games to be held in Mississauga in August. They had also previously won the sil- ver medal in Cribbage. Want to be transported to an exotic place in the world without ever leav- ing the Centre? Then come out to the Centre on Tuesday, May 22 or 29 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and share a virtual experience with the Library's new equip- ment. Coming up next in the "Spring Night" Live Music Series being held at the Ballinifad Com- munity Centre on May 25 is the Hawk's Nest Band with our own Neil Cotton. Doors open at 7 p.m. and music starts at 8 p.m. This series has become very popular, and given the audiences a taste of a variety of music. Our next movie date at the Centre is Friday, May 25. The movie is "Thank You For Your Service" starring Miles Teller and Owen Wilson. Sign up sheet is out on the travel desk for our trip to Shaw Festi- val Theatre to see Grand Hotel.
