One of the entertainers, Neil Cotton, was my Grade 11 Science teacher at GDHS (back when he was 24 and I was 16...many moons ago). He was a great teacher. We didn't know he played hock- ey (or rock n roll) but we liked him! Neil Cotton & Hawk's Nest Neil Cotton & Hawk's Nest is one of three great bands coming to entertain us at the Sat. night dance at the Old Are- na. That means non-stop music folks! Cotton was raised in the west end of Toronto. He took his fi rst music lesson (lap-steel) when he was eight years old. Cotton says "I enjoyed music but I thought I was going to be a profes- sional hockey player, so I concentrated on sports. It wasn't until I was teaching that I started to take more of an inter- est in performing music. I had always envied those people who could sing and play guitar at campfi res." It didn't take him long to become one of them! Neil Cotton & Hawk's Nest plays Old and New Country and roots Rock n Roll, both covers and originals. As in Homecoming 2007, Cotton has written a song and created a video for the occasion, a tribute to Memorial Arena. Altogether now, here's the chorus: This song is a memorial to an Old Arena, The good old Memorial Areeeena. (You just have to be there to hear it!). The band members for Homecoming 2013 are: Joey Ace, Neil Cotton, Sean Cotton, John Cox, David Hubert, and Robert Porter. Double Exposure Another well-known band is Double Exposure, featuring Janine and Bill Kent, a musical husband and wife duo, who grew up in Georgetown. They spent their younger years traveling with Up With People, a group of performers who travel the world impacting thousands through the international language of music. Today, the Kents perform approxi- mately 100 dates a year with Double Ex- posure...mostly casino, corporate and resort work. This is in addition to their full time jobs and raising their three musical teenagers. They performed at Homecoming 2007 and we can't wait to hear them again! The Larry Melton Band The Larry Melton Band needs no introduction. Larry Melton, another Georgetown-raised musician, regularly rocks the McGibbon Hotel in George- town with Thom Hastings (guitar/ vocals), Andrew Little (drums), Dan d'Entremont (bass guitar) and sister Diane Pepper (vocals/percussion). The band recently played at the Hos- pital Hoedown and they play at private parties, weddings and outdoor festi- vals with an energetic show every time. Hope you are ready to dance! Homecoming registration is $35 for the whole weekend. See www.george- townhomecoming2013.com for event and online registration details. Double Exposure will be one of the three bands taking the stage at the upcoming Homecoming at the Memorial Arena. Band members grew up in Georgetown and have reunited to give the arena a great sendoff. Members include, from left, Peter McCor- mick, Bill Kent, Brent Barkhouse, Janine Kent, Dave Deere and Larry Thompson.
