According to the Halton Region Health Department an alpaca test- ed positive for WNV recently. The animal died. Although animals are not rou- tinely tested as a part of Halton Region's comprehensive WNV monitoring program, the positive test was confi rmed by the Offi ce of the Chief Veterinarian for On- tario. A batch of mosquitoes trapped last week in Burlington also tested positive for WNV. This is the fi rst batch of WNV positive mosqui- toes for Burlington this year and the third positive batch for Hal- ton, including two batches previ- ously found in Oakville. Only Milton has avoided a pos- itive WNV case so far. "We now have confi rmation that West Nile Virus is present in three of Halton's four local mu- nicipalities," said Dr. Bob Nosal, Halton Region's Medical Offi cer of Health. "As past experience has shown, the risk for West Nile Virus hu- man illness is highest in August and September." Pack mentality A pack of Cadet Women youth racers, led by Farleigh Creswicke (101), completes one of the three laps they had to make of the 8.68-kilometre course during Monday's Tour de Terra Cotta cycling race.
