For 53 years, the Georgetown Lit- tle Theatre has been creating works of theatre for the Halton Region and area. This tradition of commu- nity theatre has been passed down through generations since the time of the Greeks. The Festival Dionysia was a theat- rical festival in ancient Greece that celebrated the harvest and human- ity. The competition took place over the course of six days (three devoted to tragedy, and three to comedy) and and after choosing a winner, they ended with a feast and a celebra- tion. The GLT Studio Shows have brought their own custom of putting together more challenging shows than you might find in a main-stage performance, and have highlighted both established pieces as well as work from up and coming and local playwrights. For two weekends in Septem- ber, these two festivals will be com- bined. The Studio Shows: Gone Greek! takes a page from the Ancients, and finds GLT hosting a play competi- tion in the style of the Athenians. With seven plays, six directors and 12 actors, there's a little something for everyone. At the end of every night, patrons are encouraged to vote for which show they think should win the mys- tery prize at the end of the festival's run on September 21. There will also be a talk-back held at the end of each night; the audience is invited to stay, give their opinion and ask questions of the featured di- rector and cast. The Studio Shows will be held September 12-14 at the Georgetown Little Theatre's Studio, 33 Stewart- town Rd. and Sept. 19-21 at the Ac- ton Town Hall Centre, 19 Willow St. All performances start at 7:30 p.m., tickets are $10. For more in- formation, contact 905-877-3422, or dontcutmeinhalf@gmail.com The Georgetown Choral Society is recruiting new members. All you need is a love of singing and a willingness to attend rehearsals. To find out if you would enjoy singing with the choir, the Society invites you to participate in its rehearsals during the month of September. Before you formally join the choir, there will be a simple audition to assess your voice. The 2013-14 season includes a tra- ditional "Olde English Christmas" concert on Dec. 7, (featuring John Rutter's Magnificat) and an exciting exploration of "Chorale Meets Blue- grass" on May 3, 2014. Rehearsals are every Monday eve- ning, 7:30 p.m., (starting September 2nd) at the Georgetown Christian Reformed Church, 11611 Trafalgar Rd., (across from the Jones Funeral home).
