Saturday 7 pm After years of helping stray and feral cats in our community, two local animal welfare advocates are taking their efforts global. When Glen Williams resident Barb Johnson fi rst heard of The Spanky Project, she knew this was an organization whose work she wanted to support. The Spanky Project is a Canadian animal welfare organization that has been work- ing with local agencies, on the ground in Cuba, for several years. They are now ready to begin a nationwide trap, neuter, release (TNR) program to address the fl ourishing cat population. In order to move things along, infra- structure must be put in place. Cuba has very little in the way of required resources. Until all the equipment is secured, the cam- paign is on hold. While a quantity of traps have been secured for the truly feral cats, many of the cats in the Cuban colonies are quite tame and could simply be gathered up in plastic cat carriers. "It's not often that we have an opportunity to make such a big dif- ference by simply clearing out our clutter," says Johnson. "We're not looking for money. All we want are your unused cat carriers."
