Doors to the new double-rink addition, featur- ing expansive lobby areas and two National Hock- ey League-size (85×200-foot) playing surfaces, will open at 1:30 p.m. and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held. Free public skates will be held at 1:45 p.m. and 3 p.m. and Break in the Ice with the Naming Do- nors ceremonies will be held with major campaign donors TransCanada (2 p.m.), Fernbrook Homes (2:30 p.m.) and Saputo (3:30 p.m.). Hockey and fi gure skating demonstrations will be held throughout the afternoon. A special gift will be handed out to the fi rst 500 people through the doors. The Town is inviting everyone to gather in the parking lot at 1 p.m. for food, fun and entertain- ment. Among the amenities in the $18.9 million reno- vation project are community-meeting rooms complete with kitchen facilities in the upper level between the two new rinks and spacious dressing rooms for players and offi cials. It also has a number of environmentally-friendly fea- tures, including seven electric vehicle charging stations, that fulfi ll the requirements to be- come a LEED (Leadership in Energy & Envi- ronmental Design) silver-certifi ed building. A community fundraising drive undertaken more than a year ago by the Halton Hills Arena Users' Group (HHAUG) under the banner, Stay at Home and Play in Halton Hills, has nearly reached its $2 million goal.
