The market opened in June with a variety of vendors selling homegrown produce, fresh meat and cheeses. • The Georgetown Rebel wrestling team captured the Halton Junior Championship title in Burlington in February. The team also took gold in the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference later that month. • In March Karen Harrison became the first woman honoured by the Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council as she joined a select group of hockey volunteers. • A five-month old Siberian husky named Kaiya saved the lives of the McConaghie family when a fire broke out in their Sixth Line home in April. 1994...in the news • A former Georgetown man and his wife-- Geoff and Sherelle Ann Barnes- were found dead on a beach in Trinidad in May. • Funding is announced for a new Catho- lic school in Georgetown South in June. • Georgetown Hospital received $1.3 million in funding from the Ministry of Health for redevelopment and expansion of the Bennett Centre in June. • A judge sent Regional Chair Peter Pomeroy to trial on two counts each of breach of trust and accepting secret commissions in July. The first of two trials is set for Jan. 17, 1995. • Bagpiper Judith Irwin of Georgetown placed second at the North American Championship in August. • Equity Waste Management, proposing a composting facility in Hornby, slapped the Town and all 12 Halton Hills council- lors with a $6 million lawsuit in October. • In a field of eight candidates longtime councilor Marilyn Serjeantson is elected Mayor in November. • Joyce Savoline was elected Halton Re- gion Chair in December.
