Halton Region's Health and Social Services Commit- tee supported a recommenda- tion Tuesday to give the proj- ect-- called Scottsdale Place at Bennett Village-- $2.3 mil- lion from its Investment in Af- fordable Housing for Ontario (IAH) program along with an additional $800,000 in Region funding to provide several be- low average market rent units in the facility. The IAH finding is to be used to create 16-one bedroom affordable rental units for se- niors, and the additional funds are to ensure that six more one bedroom below average mar- ket rent units are built. Scottsdale Place is the third phase of Bennett Health Care Centre's master plan for the property. The proposed $30 million project is an eight-sto- rey, 100-unit supportive living and assisted living apartment building for seniors. It is to include a seniors'club/ wellness centre and is to be built across the road from The Bennett Gallery on Halton Hills Dr. The target completion date is 2016. The Bennett Health Care Centre project was submitted in February after the Region put out a call for proposals for affordable housing communi- ties to be developed under the IAH. The Bennett project was the only proposal submitted. "It's a great project for the town and I was glad to see the Region support it," said Hal- ton Hills Regional Councillor Jane Fogal. The recommendation is ex- pected to be considered by Re- gional Council Dec. 11. If ap- proved by Council, the Region will then request approval for the IAH funding allocation to the Bennett Centre project from the Ministry of Munici- pal Affairs and Housing.
