- From December 1971 into 1972, Parks Canada had those area buildings that were identified (by persons unknown) as 100 or more years old, photographed. This Canadian Inventory of Heritage Buildings was a Centennial Project.
From 2018 into 2021, the Trafalgar Township Historical Society worked with Parks Canada and Library and Archives Canada to collect these photographs for the area of Trafalgar Township and Oakville, Ontario.
The TTHS has shared the images with the Town of Oakville Heritage Planners to increase local availability and to ensure local preservation.

We do not know who or how the buildings were selected for this project. The photographic and development quality is poor. Many of the buildings now holding a Heritage Designation Registered or NonRegistered were not included in this Parks Canada project. On page 6, the above booklet explains that selection of the buildings could be made by a number of agencies such as the federal government, local historical advisors to the municipality and the photographs could be taken by these agencies and/or by local conservators of some kind or private citizens.
The buildings in the collection are all framed houses. There was little thought to photograph the shed out back that was the original settler cabin.
The area from the north side of Dundas to Lower Base Line, the oldest area settler properties, were not kept by Archives or Parks Canada. Only south side of Dundas to Lake Ontario, from the Mississauga Town Line (Winston Churchill Blvd. to Bronte Creek is available.
Each TTHS internet record first shows the back of the identifying information card first. This is to prevent any errors in reading the handwritten address held up on a clipboard for each address - we have noted that sometimes the address number is illegible or incorrect.
