Description
This 1904 Map of Halton County was issued with compliments of the Milton based Higginbotham Drug Company. Heritage Services, Halton Region has provided this full scan of the map to replace and improve the Trafalgar Township map section originally shown in this record.

The large map shows the four Halton Townships: Nassagaweya, Esquesing, Nelson and Trafalgar. The "County Good Roads System, marked in red" appears to be: from east to west; what is now the Queen Elizabeth Way from Trafalgar Road west to Bronte Road, Dundas Street west right through to Wentworth County, and Steeles Avenue from Peel County west to Wentworth County. Going south to north, it looks like Trafalgar Road is coloured all the way north up through Esquesing Township as is Bronte Road. (These are the present day, year 2020, road names.)

The Canadian Pacific and Grand Trunk rail lines are visibly marked. The map also shows the township Lot and Concession numbers. I do not know what the "X"'s on some lots refer to; some have numbers such as "X3" OR "X8", my guess is the houses at a location. Might the triangles mark a church?

Milton Historical Society has provided information about the Higginbotham Drug Store in their internet records. The drug store was located in Milton. People in Trafalgar Township tended to also go to Milton for shopping, banking or medical services.

Alfred Higginbotham was the proprietor in 1904. Milton Historical Society has posted a photograph of young men including Alf, taken in 1890. He married Gertrude Robertson in Milton in July 1894. Alf was a Reeve of Milton in 1907. Another internet record of a 1913 Acton Free Press article explains that the switchboard had just been moved from the Higginbotham drug store.
