Description
3410 South Service Road east is on The Canadian Road at the northeast corner of the Ford plant according to Google maps. This farm would have been part of the Sheridan village community which stretched north up to Upper Middle Road and east over the county line (today's Winston Churchill Blvd.) in to Peel County towards the Clarkson area.

This area has been changed beyond recognition even after the 1970's because of the Queen Elizabeth Way need for widening and because of driving safety refinements to the southward curve of the highway.

A link to one of the records in our internet collection about the changes to Sheridan in the 1950's is provided in this record for your further information.

The 5th photograph in this record is particularly interesting. This is the first record in this Parks Canada series that I've found that actually photographs the old shed, clearly overgrown and unused for quite a few years, which is likely the original settler home predating the large house which otherwise is the focus of this address.

I have lightened and focussed the problematic images of this property as best possible with computer tools. A SLR (single lens reflex) film camera was used for the photographing in this Parks Canada project. Therefore, the photographer had to know how to adjust the camera for the light, for the speed and type of the film used, and for clear focussing of the image by the lens used. They had to hold themselves still while taking the photo. As well, the photographer had to have an "eye" for the "framing" of the scene. Then, in the developing of the film in the dark room, care had to be taken to do each step properly. Not easy steps for the average person to acheive properly.

Notes
In December 1971, January 1972, Parks Canada photographed those buildings that were 100 or more years old. This Canadian Inventory of Heritage Buildings was a Centennial Project.

The Trafalgar Township Historical Society has worked with Parks Canada and Library and Archives Canada to find the photographs taken in the Trafalgar Township and Town of Oakville areas. The collection will grow as we have time to collect and prepare the images.

The TTHS is also sending the images to the Town of Oakville Heritage Planners to increase local availability and to ensure local preservation.

Each TTHS internet record will show the back of the identifying information card first. This is to prevent any errors in reading the handwritten address held up on a clipboard for each address - we have noted that sometimes the address number is illegible or incorrect.

At the top of each TTHS record, you will find "pages" to click on to view the various photographs. If not all from the index card contact sheet are included, you can use the "Comment" tab in this record to request another.

All TTHS records in this collection can be found in one step by clicking on the "Groups" link on the right of your screen, "Parks Canada. Canadian Inventory of Heritage Buildings, 1970-1972. Trafalgar Township & Oakville."
