Description
At time of photographing by Parks Canada, this land was owned by A. Fumarti according to the Parks Canada index card. If it wasn't then, it was later owned by the Ontario Government as was the farmland to the east.

There were two farms adjacent to each other on the north-east corner of Bronte Road and todays North Service Road on the Deerfield Golf Course.

In 2018, the Town of Oakville purchased all the property to ensure the Fourteen-Mile Creek land remains protected greenspace.

Over the years, several houses were built on the two farms. It is thought the William Peacock house is the derelict house you see just west of the Deerfield entrance, just as the North Service Road curves up to meet Bronte Road. It has the mailbox labelled as "2363" but was previously #2411 North Service Road.

The Town of Oakville has placed a fence around it. It has a dormer window above the front door. It looks like it had a porch roof along the house front as shown on the house in this record, identified as Parks Canada as #2363.

Historic information on the houses is taken from the Amick Consultants Limited Report, "Stage 1 Archaeological Background Study Project Name: Merton Tertiary Plan Project Location: Part of Lots 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 & 31, Concession 2 South of Dundas Street (Geographic Township of Trafalgar South, County of Halton), Town of Oakville, Regional Municipality of Halton." The report is linked under the photograph for your further information.

See pages 33/34 and 98 for photographs of #2363 as part of the Deerhurst Club House, and #2411.
It is confusing to figure out exactly which house was #2363, #2363A, and #2411.

We have a number of records in our internet collection of the Peacock family. William Peacock had been a seaman and then captain before retiring in England. He and Harriet came to Halton in 1832 with six of their eventual eleven children. They lived for a time at Palermo where William built St. Luke's Anglican church and did the beautiful wood carving inside. They were also able to purchase a homestead in Merton where William and Harriet gave land for the Merton school although William felt he was too old to erect the building.
Notes
In December 1971, January 1972, Parks Canada photographed those buildings that were 100 or more years old. This Canadian Inventory of Heritage Buildings was a Centennial Project.

The Trafalgar Township Historical Society has worked with Parks Canada and Library and Archives Canada to find these photographs in the area of Trafalgar Township and the city of Oakville, Ontario. The collection will grow as we have time to collect and prepare the images.

The TTHS is also sending the images to the Town of Oakville Heritage Planners to increase local availability and to ensure local preservation.

Each TTHS internet record will show the back of the identifying information card first. This is to prevent any errors in reading the handwritten address held up on a clipboard for each address - we have noted that sometimes the address number is illegible or incorrect.

At the top of each TTHS record, you will find "pages" to click on to view the various photographs.

All TTHS records in this collection can be found in one step by clicking on the "Groups" link on the right of your screen, "Parks Canada. Canadian Inventory of Heritage Buildings, 1970-1972. Trafalgar Township & Oakville."
