Description
At time of photographing by Parks Canada, this land was owned by the Ontario Government, rented by Karopa Enterprises. The name of the resident is not clear on the Parks Canada index card.

The Deerfield Golf Club has rented the land for many years. In 1988, they started to build the clubhouse which incorporates the old farmhouse, and finished construction in 1989.

In 2018, the Town of Oakville purchased the property to ensure the Fourteen-Mile Creek land remains protected greenspace.

There were two farms adjacent to each other on the north-east corner of Bronte Road and the North Service Road. #2363, the George Langtree House, ca1850, is listed on the Town of Oakville Heritage Register. This house is on Lot 27. There is no dormer above the front door. George Langtry also owned part of Lot 29 to the west.

#2411 is the derelict house you see just west of the Deerfield entrance, just as the North Service Road curves up to meet Bronte Road. The Town of Oakville has placed a fence around it. #2411 was the William Peacock house on Lot 29, built 1854. It has a dormer window above the front door. It looks like it had a porch roof along the house front as shown on the house in this record, identified as Parks Canada as #2363.

The two farms saw several houses built, and it is thought the William Peacock house shows evidence of additions and construction of different years.

Historic information on the houses is taken from the DRAFT Amick Consultants Limited Report, "Stage 1 Archaeological Background Study Project Name: Merton Tertiary Plan Project Location: Part of Lots 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 & 31, Concession 2 South of Dundas Street (Geographic Township of Trafalgar South, County of Halton), Town of Oakville, Regional Municipality of Halton." The report is linked under the photograph for your further information.

See pages 33/34 and 98 for photographs of #2363 as part of the Deerhurst Club House, and #2411.

It is confusing to figure out exactly which house was #2363, #2363A, and #2411. Parks Canada also photographed #2363A so view that record in this collection as well.

Our internet collection has a number of records showing the Langtry, also spelled Langtree, family as they were early settlers in the area of Trafalgar Township.
Notes
In December 1971, January 1972, Parks Canada photographed those buildings that were 100 or more years old. This Canadian Inventory of Heritage Buildings was a Centennial Project.

The Trafalgar Township Historical Society has worked with Parks Canada and Library and Archives Canada to find these photographs in the area of Trafalgar Township and the city of Oakville, Ontario. The collection will grow as we have time to collect and prepare the images.

The TTHS is also sending the images to the Town of Oakville Heritage Planners to increase local availability and to ensure local preservation.

Each TTHS internet record will show the back of the identifying information card first. This is to prevent any errors in reading the handwritten address held up on a clipboard for each address - we have noted that sometimes the address number is illegible or incorrect.

At the top of each TTHS record, you will find "pages" to click on to view the various photographs.

All TTHS records in this collection can be found in one step by clicking on the "Groups" link on the right of your screen, "Parks Canada. Canadian Inventory of Heritage Buildings, 1970-1972. Trafalgar Township & Oakville."
