•T he IFP• H alton H ills, Tuesd ay, M arch 5, 2013 13 The stage at Acton Town Hall Centre hasn't likely seen as much rockin' and rollin' in recent years, as it did with Georgetown Globe Productions opening of Show Stoppers, Friday night. The production features a fairly young cast and crew, which gives the show a totally different feel, compared to usual Globe shows. Music from the more recent, rock-inspired Broadway shows like Rock of Ages, Rent, Mamma Mia and We Will Rock You, gave the performers a chance to belt it out. Given the raw energy they possess, it made the show quite diverse and entertaining. But it wasn't all rock and roll, as songs from more traditional shows like Wizard of Oz, Chicago and West Side Story slowed down the tempo for a mix of music. A few outstanding renditions rose to the top during the night. Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Wizard of Oz), a duet featuring Cullen-McArthur Jackson and Alex Ellison (accompanying on guitar) was one of the most mov- ing renditions with its simplicity and harmonies. Jaime Lynn Brown performed a spectacular rendition of Memo- ry (Cats), and the chorus rocked out a rousing version of Queen's Someone to Love (We Will Rock You) as various members of the chorus took turns singing solo. The only problem with the show was the audio levels of the vocalists. At times, the band was so loud, the vocalists were com- pletely overpowered, in spite of the fact they had microphones. Obviously, the sound person was asleep at the switch. Hopefully, it was an opening night problem, and has been cor- rected for the remaining shows. It's a great show with lots of ener- gy-- and simply a pity if you can't hear the vocals. The chorus is comprised of: Al- ana Bostock, Jaime Lynn Brown, Abigail DeNardis, Amanda Dw- yer, Alex Ellison, Melissa Fischer, Lois Fraser, Jasmine Gilmour, Jennifer Girvin, Cullen-McArthur Jackson, Jenn Johnson, Kate- lynn Johnston, Craig Marshall, Jen Marshall, Jordan May, Diane Murray-Charrett, Nick Petroff, Alyssa Verasammy, Matt Willis, Margaret Zabokrzycki. Band members included John Pugh (conductor/keyboard), Brett Girvin (guitar), Chris Udell (bass) and Jeremy Morgan (drums). The show continues March 7 to 9.
