Submitted photo Atom BB Tanners sign off with OMHA title victory Much like their neighbours in Georgetown did on the Easter week- end, the last-ever game for the Acton Tanners resulted in the lifting of an Ontario Minor Hockey Association trophy. With Acton and Georgetown rep teams signed off to join forces next season to become the Halton Hills Thunder, the atom BB Tanners were looking to duplicate what George- town's minor bantam AA Raid- ers accomplished last Saturday in Kingston, which was to win their or- ganization's swan song, on the road, no less. Tied 2-2 with Prince Edward Coun- ty heading back to Wellington for the crucial fi fth contest, the Tanners fell behind 1-0 on an early Kings' power play marker. But Acton netminder Matthew Lantz provided his teammates with a boost by stopping a penalty shot in the middle frame. Brady Worthman evened the score in the third period, followed by Nolan Cree's breakaway goal with fi ve minutes left in regula- tion time that clinched the OMHA title for the Tanners, along with some superb defending from Tyler Bartels, Zach Booth, Brandon Hatt, captain Brett Hilts and Roberto Ferraioli. Coach Adam Hilts's squad had a chance to close out the series on home ice in game four in front of a packed Acton Arena crowd, but the Kings escaped with a 2-1 win after scoring on a power play with two minutes remaining in the third pe- riod. Sponsored by Trendz Hair Studio and Dufferin Aggregates, the atom BB Tanners swept Pelham in the OMHA quarterfi nals before needing fi ve games to get past St. Marys in the semis.
