A. R. Gurney's Sylvia, directed by Jim Monaghan and produced by Pa- mela Niesiobedzki-Curtis is a hilari- ous commentary on mid-life angst and the important role pets play in our lives. In this GLT production, the wife's (Lisa Rasanen) career is fi nally tak- ing off, while the husband (Bart Pen- warden) desperately wants out of a job that he feels is no longer real. Never before has the eternal triangle taken such form. Instead of a young, buxom blonde, this home wrecker is a four-legged, shaggy labradoodle with big, soulful, eyes(Amiliah Goo- drich). As this 'other woman' vies for her husband's attention Kate starts to feel threatened, especially since he seems to prefer the dog! And so the battle begins. The cast is rounded out by three other quirky characters: the society matron Phyllis (Pam Curtis) whom Sylvia insists upon checking out (you know where); Tom (Cory Sanders) who is full of humorous advice for the new dog owner and Leslie (Dan- iel Olien) the unisex marriage coun- sellor who really has no sane advice for anyone. One brief word of caution. Al- though delightful and funny, Sylvia may not be suitable for children. Aside from its adult theme, the young Sylvia peppers the play with adult language, especially when con- fronting cats! Sylvia runs evenings at 8 p.m. at the Acton Town Hall Centre, 19 Wil- low St. in Acton April 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 and 2 p.m. Apr. 14, 21. Tickets may be purchased by cash or cheque at the door, or at Acton Home Hardware or at Sports Unlimited. Credit cards are accepted at the JET Box Offi ce 905-877-3700 and online at www.haltonhills.ca/theatre/. Come out and enjoy a delightful show. You will never again look at Fido or Fifi the same. Has Georgetown Little Theatre gone to the dogs? In Georgetown Little Theatre's upcoming production, Sylvia, cast members (from left) Tom (Cory Sanders), Greg (Bart Penwarden), Kate (Lisa Rasanen), Leslie (Dan Olien) and Phyllis (Pamela Niesiobe- dzki-Curtis) were joined by 'Sylvia' (Amiliah Goodrich), as they re- hearsed for the comedy opening Friday at Acton Town Hall Centre. Competition was fi erce among the 50 production entries. Everyone sat anxiously hoping their showcase masterpiece would possibly garnish them a coveted nomination or even win them the "Thea". Georgetown did very well in their respective cate- gories. Not only did they bring home the "gold" but they reaped many nominations as well. In the Musical Category Globe's The Music Man garnished four nominations: Mary Udell (Best Cos- tumes); Curtis Papetti (Best Stage Manager); Greg Gallagher as Harold Hill (Male Lead) and Lee-Anne Jones as Mrs. Paroo (Female Supporting) In the Drama Category George- town Little Theatre's Doubt had two nominations: See AWARDS, pg. 20 Local theatre community bring home Theas
