Georgetown Candlelight Tributes has set up a display in the Georgetown Library showing picture panels of many veterans from Glen Williams covering WWI and WWII. The pictures are the work of Gordon Preston and include details of the "Old Boys' Reunion" held on June 21 and 22, 1946 honouring those who served during WWII. The display will remain in the library until May 2, when the Georgetown Can- dlelight Tributes will be held involving some 1,450 students from 19 schools who will lay lighted candles in tribute to veterans as a symbolic Passing of the Torch of Remembrance in honour and recognition of the peace and freedom that they enjoy as Canadians. The display will also be available at Georgetown Market Place Friday, April 26 and Saturday April 27. On Thursday, May 2, there will be three ceremonies. At 10 a.m. about 1,275 students from 18 schools in the Georgetown and surrounding area will place their candles at Remembrance Park. At 1 p.m. Glen Williams School's 175 students will attend at the Glen Cenotaph to lay their candles. At the end of each ceremony the students will shake hands with the vet- erans in attendance. The public is wel- come. The community is also welcome to participate in a Silent Walk that will congregate at 6:30 p.m. at the George- town Legion on Mill St. and leave sharp at 7 p.m. to the tolling of the bell from Knox Presbyterian Church in a silent procession along Main St. to Remem- brance Park to lay their candles on the Cenotaph at Remembrance Park. Residents can join the Silent Walk along the way or meet at Remem- brance Park. After placing your candle you will have an opportunity to shake hands with the veterans and express a "Thank You" for your freedom. Candles available $5 each.
