AmbiEscents Wickless Candles A Georgetown dad was shocked when the birthday surprise he came up with for his son drew attention from a couple media outlets and thousands of people last week. Dave Spencer decided to do something a little different for his son Brody's 11th birthday and de- vised a treasure hunt in Cedarvale Park. After Spencer posted informa- tion and pictures of the treasure hunt on the social media site Red- dit at http://imgur.com/a/QWYfk he couldn't believe the response. With- in the fi rst day his posting had been viewed by close to 650,000 people-- and as of Wednesday the number of views had climbed past 699,000. "It was the number one post on the site for a few hours," said Spen- cer. The day after he posted it, he had an email from the Huffi ngton Post, which ran a story on the trea- sure hunt. Not long after that, Good Morning America came calling via email, and posted a story about the hunt on its online site. Spencer, who last March fi nished second in the Discovery Channel's Canada's Greatest Know-it-all com- petition, couldn't believe the inter- est Brody's birthday surprise gener- ated. "I just thought it was a fun thing and I wanted to share it with people so they might try the same thing. I didn't really think it was that origi- nal of an idea," he said. Brody's hunt for his present was on-- two days before his actual birthday-- when he found the trea- sure map hidden in a metal tube in a heat register in their home. Dave got him to look there when he said he dropped a loonie in the register. Brody fi gured out the next clue could be found under the bridge at Cedarvale Park so Spencer drove him to the park and enjoyed watch- ing all the fun he was having fi g- uring out the clues that included transparencies to be placed over the previous map. "I was really biting my tongue a lot. I did kind of redirect him once," said Spencer. But he added, "I re- ally left it up to him." Halton Police are looking for two men in connec- tion with recent thefts from LCBO outlets in George- town over the past six weeks and have released pho- tos of the suspects. He is described as a white male, 40 yrs. old, with dark hair, facial stubble and was wearing a dark- coloured 'DC' baseball hat. In the second case, on at least two occasions, a man took various amounts of alcohol without pay- ing from the Mountainview Rd. store. He is described as a white male, 40 yrs. old, with short, buzzed reddish-brown hair and pale/pock- marked skin.
