In a PowerPoint presentation to coun- cillors, BIA representa- tive Ted Flanagan said as the neighbourhood evolves over the years, the BIA would like to ensure the Downtown remains vital and as the centrepiece of the town. He said the BIA would like to see a dis- tinctive 19th Century streetscape be devel- oped along Mill St. and Main St. and the Memorial Arena site could be the start of this process. So on the Memorial Arena lands the BIA would like to see: • An upscale development with design elements that complement the 19th Cen- tury heritage of the downtown core. • A 4-storey (fl exible) structure of 150- 200 units. • A commercial component on the fi rst fl oor. The BIA also would like the developer to have an opportunity to buy some of the homes along Mill St. to tran- sition into commercial. • Expansion of the BIA border to include this property, which will create more taxes for the Town and levies for the BIA. • The start of a green space walkway along Silver Creek for pedestrians-- started by the Memorial Arena developer. • The Town should put zoning into place to allow the developer to develop these plans. "We think this will be a good solution," said Flanagan. The Georgetown BIA is comprised of 137 businesses and 70 landowners, primarily in the Main St. S. corridor be- tween Guelph St. and Church St. Georgetown BIA shares wish list for future of Memorial Arena site By CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer The Georgetown BIA's ideas for the future development of the Memo- rial Arena site calls for, among oth- er things, an upscale development that compliments the downtown.
