Now entering their sixth or seventh summer of making stuff up, the anniversary-adverse George- town Little Improv Club (GLIC) is starting up their 2013 summer sessions on May 15. New members are welcomed with open arms. Whether you have years of experience or have never done theatrical improvisation in your life, as long as you have a willingness to jump right in, GLIC wants you! Anyone over 16 years of age and $25 can join. That's $25 for 10 sessions of improv PLUS you be- come a member of Georgetown Little Theatre and reap all the benefi ts of being part of Georgetown's award-winning community theatre company. Improvisation isn't just about laughs; it's about fi nding the emotional truth in any situation. But, it's often the brutal honesty of life that provides the biggest yuks. As the great guru of improv Keith Johnstone once said: "The best laughs are on the recognition of truth." GLIC meets every Wednesday, 7:30-10 p.m. at Georgetown Little Theatre's studio rehearsal venue, 33 Stewarttown Rd. There, a like-minded group of fun-loving folks meet to learn all the rules of impro- visation so that we can then break those rules as we see fi t. Through-out the summer, we will have real-world professional improvisers come out to teach us a thing or two. (Yes, there are professional improvisers. Honestly.) At the end of the summer, those brave enough to take the stage in front of a live audience will per- form a showcase for two nights (August 23 and 24). This year, one of those nights GLIC will host the Improv Alliance, a loose assembly of GTA improv troupes, and perform head-to-head in an improv battle royale. GLIC has won this so many times, we can't actually tell you when those times were. Just too many of them to count. Sound like fun? But you think: "I can't do that. I'll look dumb." No you won't. Improv is about sup- porting your fellow improviser and making them look good. When you make others look good, you look good. And let me tell you, we are a good-look- ing bunch. For more information, join us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/groups/GLICkers/, or visit GLT at www.georgetownlittletheatre.ca.
