Ron could best be described as "Mr. Ev- erything" in local theatre-- actor, director, stage manager, set designer, set builder and above all a loyal member of Georgetown Little Theatre. In the years that Ron and his wife Dorothy lived in Georgetown, he proudly claimed that he had participated in over 100 productions in some capacity or other. His set designs won him awards, and his acting was always the recipient of many ac- colades. Ron got into local theatre entirely by accident. Apparently, a member of George- town Little Theatre went door to door seek- ing out people who might like to participate in what was then a fl edgling group. When Ron was approached, he agreed to be cast in the upcoming production with the un- derstanding that it was "a small part." That part grew to the point where he ended up in the lead role. From that point, he never looked back, and GLT was the principal benefi ciary. One of his most memorable performances, however, was with Brampton Music The- atre, with his outstanding interpretation of Alfred Dolittle in a production of My Fair Lady. Ron's contribution to theatre led to two THEAs. The fi rst was for Murder Mistaken in 1978 when he won the "Adjudicators Award for Set Design & Decor," and the second three years later for Count Dracula, when he won the "Adjudicators Award for- Special Effects and Stage Management." Ron was particularly proud of the latter award, since he made use of his engineer- ing skills to create the special effects that made the production the success it was. Throughout all the years that Ron was involved in local productions, he always had a ready smile on his face, and was a constant fund of great jokes. Ron may have been small in stature, but he was a giant in so many other ways. At the end of every GLT Annual Dinner, Ron led the singing of one of his favourite songs, "Bye, Bye, Blackbird." The song will be reprised again this year at the GLT Din- ner on Saturday, May 25. It is highly likely that, on this occasion, there will not be a dry eye in the house. The Georgetown Bach Chorale is ex- cited to have been invited to participate in Festival 500 in July, and members are working hard to prepare themselves for this musical experience. Festival 500 Sharing the Voices is a celebrated international biennial festi- val of choral music, held in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador over a full week. Choirs are required to audi- tion and must be invited to participate in this Festival. Choirs are given the opportunity to perform and participate in various con- certs, workshops, clinics and master classes-- all delivered by world leaders in their respective fi elds. The Georgetown Bach Chorale will perform an afternoon concert as well as an evening concert with other choirs during this week. This heralded Festival and its ac- companying academic symposium on the phenomenon of singing brings to- gether singers, conductors and schol- ars from countries and cultures world- wide. Here they participate among the very best of the world's musical artistry and scholarship. Members of the Gaudeamus Choirs of Halton Hills has also been invited to attend Festival 500. This children's choir was founded in 2006 by its current conductor, Diane Murray-Charrett.
