Extra-curriculars include: Assisting behind-the-scenes for school drama productions, volunteering at Aca- demic Awards Night, Student Coun- cil, White Pine Reading Club and the Semi-Formal Committee. She is very involved in local community: Homework Club at McK- enzie-Smith Bennett P.S., the Even Start Morning Children's Program, the Acton Agricultural Society, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters Homework Club. Emily Litster Christ the King Catholic High School Emily leaves her mark wherever she goes. She is a leader through- out the school, as the Catholic Youth Advisor for the Student Council and the founding president of the Arts Council. She is multi-talented, and puts all of these talents to use in her participation in the school choir, her lead roles in the musicals, her mission work in the Dominican Republic, and her volunteer work in the organization and sup- port of various athletic events. Emily is a perfect example of the Christian citizen that we encourage all of our students become. Students representing each of the Halton District School Board's (HDSB) elementary and secondary schools were recently honoured at the 29th annual Celebration of Student Excellence. Students were recognized for demonstrating outstanding qualities in more than one of the following areas: academic, vocational, athletic, self-improvement, community work, citizen- ship, and student leadership. "We welcome this opportunity to celebrate their success and to acknowledge the teachers, parents and community members who have helped these students in their achievements," says David Euale, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board. Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) also honoured its outstanding students at its 25th annual Sharing the Spirit Award of Excellence celebration. As well, HCDSB Special Education Advisory Committee presented its region-wide Spirit of Inclusion Awards. The students who have been selected to receive the Sharing The Spirit Award were nominated by their principal. Each demonstrated outstanding qualities in the following areas: Catholic leader- ship, family commitment, involvement in school affairs, involvement in community activities and dedication to a diffi cult situation or task. HCDSB Michael Pautler, Director of Educa- tion says, "The award recipients, through their daily interactions have demonstrated a commit- ment to serve their communities, and live their lives by Christ's example." Chloe Karger Georgetown High School Chloe, a Grade 12 student, shows a commitment to success no mat- ter what she sets her mind to, and she has been a model student and community member during her time at GDHS. She is kind, compas- sionate and leads with a gentle maturity which sets her apart from her peers. She is easy to work with due to her humble nature and academi- cally she consistently exemplifi es a strong application of learning and critical thinking. Chloe manages to balance a job, extra-curricular and community involvement with near perfect attendance. As a member of Link Crew, the designer of hallway bulletin boards and stage manager for the school musical, she has demonstrated dependability and a will- ingness to work with staff and students to ensure that GDHS is a welcoming, safe and engaging place.
