The games-- the fi rst of the season in Ontario-- will run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Georgetown Fairgrounds. The best competitors can't wait to get to the Games to test their skills for the new season. There is a competition for pipe bands, solo piping, solo drumming, high- land dancing and both ladies' and mens' heavyweight events from 8 a.m. on. There will be between 25 and 30 bands this year taking part in the Massed Bands during the opening and closing ceremo- nies. At 12:30 p.m. Honorary Chieftain Tom Reynolds of The Weather Network and a long-time supporter of the Games will welcome everyone and declare the Georgetown Games offi cially open. In addition to the massed bands the opening ceremonies include the massed Highland Fling, massed country dancing, the parade of the Clans and a demonstra- tion by the 78 Fraser Highlanders in pe- riod costume. Surrounding the main event area there will be concessions offering Scottish foods, clothes and cultural novelties and a children's area including Pictish face painting, creating fl oral garlands and a bouncy castle. There will also be a Cheer Garden where people can relax with friends and hear the top pipe bands compete on the main fi eld. Following the closing ceremonies at 5:30 p.m. everyone can welcome the win- ning Grade 1 band which traditionally plays a medley of a few, sometimes novel, tunes before enjoying refreshments.
