"This is a huge concern to Hal- ton Hills, particularly to Acton, (because) this Hidden Quarry is going to cause a lot of disrup- tion," said Mayor Rick Bonnette at Monday's council meeting. The staff letter to the MNR sent in April stated the Town is still reviewing the application and it is considered premature to state a position until that's completed. James Dick Construction Ltd. has ap- plied for a MNR aggregate licence to allow the extraction of 700,000 tonnes of aggre- gate, above and below the water table, an- nually for about 15 to 20 years on the north side of Hwy. 7 at Sixth Line Eramosa, just west of Acton. It's expected 107 trucks will be leaving and entering the site per day, Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the majority of the trucks expected to trav- el east along Hwy. 7 or south on Regional Rd. 25 through Halton Hills. Regional Councillor Clark Somerville extrapolated that number to 27,000 trucks a year. "That becomes a huge number espe- cially when you start considering the life of this quarry will be 20 years," he said. "So it doesn't take very long to see the impact that the mayor mentioned." "You have truckers in large tandem trucks with full loads of gravel travelling down the down- town streets of Acton with the one thought in their minds of getting to their destinations as quickly as they can so they can get back for that one extra load," added Acton Councillor Jon Hurst. "So safety to me is the biggest concern." The Concerned Residents Co- alition (CRC), now with more than 300 members, is holding a general meeting on the Hidden Quarry on Wednesday, June 19, 7:30 p.m. at the Ac- ton Town Hall Centre. Attendees will be provided an update on CRC actions, the progress of the rezoning and MNR aggre- gate licence, and scientific research on the impacts. Meanwhile at the same council meeting, Halton Hills Council approved a purchase order for gravel from James Dick Con- struction Ltd. for $117,152 for the main- tenance of roads and shoulders within the community. The gravel will be used on Clayhill Rd. from the Tenth Line to Fallbrook Trail and on Fallbrook Trail from Ninth Line to 27 Sideroad and on Tenth Line, north of 27 Sideroad.
