Fifteen-year-old high-scoring for- ward Adam Mascherin was a late-sea- son call-up by the Georgetown Jr. A Raiders and by the time their season came to a close last week in the third round of playoffs, the Maple, Ont. na- tive played a regular shift and contrib- uted six goals and two assists in 11 post-season appearances. The 5-foot-9, 195-pound Mascherin was taken second overall in Saturday's OHL draft by the Kitchener Rangers. Photo by Graham Paine/Metroland Media Group Jags thrilled with Euro tour Christ the King's varsity boys' hockey team didn't fare as well as usual in the top flight of Halton high school competition this past winter, but the Jaguars recently returned from a 10-day trip of Europe with long-lasting memories of the 2013- 14 campaign. The Jaguars visited Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, winning their first game before being routed by a pow- erful EHC Red Bull junior team and los- ing the finale 3-1. The trip, however, focused more on the cultural aspects of those countries and the team toured Munich, Salzburg and Prague extensively, visiting the former Nazi concentration camp Dachau and climbing a mountain in Austria. The Jaguars also attended a German pro league matchup in Munich involving Milton native Darren Haydar, who met with the players afterward and even came to CtK's game the next day, offering some pointers to his North Halton neighbours. After winning the past two Halton Tier I boys' hockey titles, the Jaguars struggled in the league playoff tournament and were knocked out by Georgetown in the Rebels' first win in a few years over their cross-town rivals. "Even though we probably should have gone a lot farther in the playoffs than we did, you can't complain," goalie Devin Blanchard said. "We went to Europe and that's better than winning any champion- ship, in my view."
