Globe mourns loss of member; Fletcher fought for cancer drug Kimm Fletcher (bottom row, second from right), surrounded by her Globe cast-mates, which was taken at "Making Memories for Kimm," a fund- raiser at the JET held on March 8, where $3,500 was raised. Kimm died on April 27, but lived an extra six months, thanks to the generosity of many people who helped her buy the drug Avastin, to extend her life. Photo submitted Kimm Fletcher, the Milton moth- er of two who fought the province tirelessly to cover the cost of a drug to prolong her life, died peacefully in hospice in Oakville on Sunday night, said her sister, Hallie Fletcher. She was 41. Fletcher, who was diagnosed in 2010 with glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive and deadly form of brain cancer, made a passionate plea to Health Minister Deb Mat- thews in October, trying unsuccess- fully to get the province to cover the cost of the drug Avastin, which she continued to take at a cost of about $8,000 per month. Even though the answer was no, Fletcher kept fighting. Family and friends raised more than $111,000 to pay for the treatment the province would not provide. (http://www.go- fundme.com/4vidz4). Georgetown Globe Productions held a benefit in March for Fletcher, who was a long- time member.
