Wide receiver Dondre Palma of the North Halton Crimson Tide scam- pers into the end zone after catching a pass from QB Tanner Gaskill- Cadwallader during an Ontario Football Conference varsity game last weekend. The Tide improved to 4-0 with a 38-21 victory over the host Oakville Titans, setting up a clash for first place with the Huronia Stal- lions this Sunday at Kiwanis Field in Georgetown at 5 p.m. North Hal- ton's junior varsity team is 2-2 after losing their last two games in the final seconds and the youth-laden bantam Tide has scored 111 points in four starts but hasn't been able to find the win column yet, getting edged out 34-33 by Vaughan last weekend. The second-annual HHMFA Children's Wish Football Chal- lenge will kick off at 3:30 p.m. at Georgetown District High School. Gates open at 2 p.m. and several family-oriented events are planned to run alongside the game between the fire- fighters and members of the HHMFA executive, coaches and alumni. A minimum donation of $5 is being requested for admis- sion. Some of the proceeds will also go to support the HHMFA. Bulldogs appear mired in 4th Eleven wins in their last dozen games like- ly won't help the Halton Hills Bulldogs much leading in to the start of Ontario Jr. B Lacrosse League playoffs next week. With two games remaining on the schedule, it's unlikely the Bulldogs will finish higher than fourth place in the East Conference thanks in large part to a 3-3 start to the campaign, which included a pair of losses to the Oakville Buzz. Halton Hills, with a 14-4 record, hosts Mis- sissauga Thursday at 8 p.m. and the Newmar- ket Saints Saturday at 7:30 p.m., while the 14-4 Buzz, who hold the tiebreaker advantage over the 'Dogs, have a pair of games left against Oril- lia and Mississauga. Barring an upset, it appears that coach Blaine McCauley's squad will face another long-distance opponent in the first round of playoffs as the Gloucester Griffins figure to fin- ish fifth in the conference standings. It's not certain whether a couple of fifth-year players will be able to get into the lineup this weekend as Seth Laidlaw and Mike MacDonald recover from injuries. "We're fortunate to have the depth that we do and when we were short at times this sea- son, we had some kids come up and do the job for us," said McCauley. On Sunday night, the Bulldogs clobbered the Mountaineers 19-11 in Mimico as veteran sharpshooter Tyler LeBlanc returned from inju- ry with a five-goal effort. Adam Charalambides (3), Miles Cox (3), Owen White (3), Campbell Parker, Josh Oliver, Kyle Moore, Lewis White and Jayson Crawford adding to the onslaught. The 6-11-1 Markham Ironheads gave the host 'Dogs a tough test Saturday, with the hosts hanging on for an 8-7 victory. Owen White (3), Charalambides (2), Lewis White, Jesse Oliver and Jamie Batten scored for Halton Hills. Junior members at The Club at North Hal- ton were victorious at a couple of recent events, with two players qualifying for the Ontario Summer Games coming up in August. Sixteen-year-old Thomas Hunt shot a spar- kling round of 68 to win by four strokes at a Summer Games qualifier last month at the Cambridge Golf Club to earn a spot at the an- nual under-17 event, set for Windsor's Roseland Golf Club Aug. 8-10. Hunt will also play in the Golf of Association of Ontario Men's Amateur Championship at North Halton July 8-11 after receiving a sponsor's exemption. Another North Halton member, Dylan Mor- ris, survived shooting an eight on the par-4 15th hole at the Bridgewater Golf Club in Fort Erie to grab the final Summer Games qualify- ing spot with a round of 80. As well, North Halton has an Interclub team that plays against competition from around the GTA and the locals placed first out of eight entries at the recent stop at The National in Woodbridge. The top three net scores per team count to- wards the final total and North Halton took top spot with 216 strokes. Hunt, Zack Henderson, Mason McDermot and Jack Waddick teed it up for that tournament. Matt Tindale, hired on as the assistant club pro in March, is now overseeing the junior pro- gram at North Halton, which will host the In- terclub series stop on June 28.
