Saturday, May 26 | 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road RELAY CHALLENGE Oakville Fire Department recruit Marc Cantin hauls a coiled hose up the training tower as part of a recent combat challenge during the department's first annual Youth Week activities. The May 1 event saw new recruits and members of the Oakville Fire Department's award-winning Firefighter Combat Challenge team challenge local youth to a combat relay that included an obstacle course designed to demonstrate a firefighter's fitness and ability to deal with the physical demands of the job. The Youth vs. Recruits Combat Challenge at the fire department's training facility served as an opportunity to expose youth to firefighting as a possible career choice. Josh Lee, 17, keeps his eye on the target. Recruit Shawn Potter, left, and Griffin Dubbeld, 18, are neck-and-neck in the dummy race. Mati Saar, 17, makes his way up the tower while lugging a heavy hose. Chris Kutlesa, 18, keeps a firm grip on the dummy. Nikki Wesley/Metroland COMMUNITY
