Participants in the Halton Hills Com- munity Cycling Challenge have reached the halfway point of 150,000 kms logged. The Challenge was launched on April 28 and so far has attracted over 650 par- ticipants of all ages and abilities. These cy- clists have faithfully logged every kilometre they have ridden onto a dedicated website www.bikechallenge.ca. At the halfway point, Bike Challenge sponsors are making good on their pledges to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation. Georgetown Canadian Tire presented a cheque for $20,000 to Georgetown Hos- pital Foundation as did Superior Glove for $2,000; Ollie's Cycle and Skim $1000; Young Dentistry, $1,000; HealthSpan Well- ness, $500 and Betty D'Oliveira, $500. "We are thrilled to be receiving $25,000 from local sponsors of the Bike Challenge. It is terrific to have this support from both sponsors and the cyclists." said George- town Hospital Foundation Executive Di- rector K.C. Carruthers. This is the second year for the Halton Hills Community Cycling Challenge which is a project of the Town's Bicycle Friendly Community Committee. After successfully reaching the 200,000 km goal last year, the Committee set this year's goal at 300,000 kms or 7 ½ times around the Earth! See CHALLENGE, pg. 10 Bike Challenge reaches halfway goal
