Photo by Tyson Spitzer More than 150 Leslie de- scendants came together to celebrate their common heri- tage this summer. While most were the de- scendants of John Leslie and Letty Ann Boke who settled in Williamsburg (now Glen Williams) in 1819, there were also present descendants from three other lines of this ancient Scottish family. Piper Mark McClennan called the clan together and those gathered learned of an- cient Leslie history from Wil- liam Leslie, Commissioner of Clan Leslie North America; the history of the Irish Plantation during the 169 years the Les- lie ancestors lived in the north of Ireland as told by Robert Leslie; and the history of pio- neer life in the north of Halton County as told by local author and historian, John McDonald. This reunion brought to a close a tradition of bi-annual gatherings that had started in 1926. However, there is the op- portunity for all Leslie descen- dants to maintain the family connection by membership in the Clan Leslie Society Inter- national. Every two years, society members have the chance to gather, and in August of 2016, this opportunity will be a gath- ering at the Fergus Highland Games in Fergus.
