ONE NIGHT ONLY!Drug warrant nets threeThe District One Strategic Support Team of the Halton Regional Police executed a search warrant of a Georgetown residence Thursday night that led to three local-area men being charged with weapon and drug offences. Officers used a Controlled Drugs & Sub- stances Act warrant and discovered a quan- tity of marijuana. Charged with trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon is Nicholas Stark, 24, of George- town. Canadian currency and drug packag- ing materials were also seized. Possession of marijuana charges were also laid against Tomas Durbano, 22, of Acton, and Samuel Kuruvilla, 21, of Halton Hills. Impaired charges after Norval crash A 21-year-old from Mississauga is fac- ing impaired driving charges as a result of a single-vehicle collision with a tree in Norval early Friday morning. Halton Regional Police responded to the incident in the Winston Churchill and 10 Sideroad area and discovered a vehicle with multiple occupants inside. The re- port didn't indicate whether anyone was injured. Upon speaking with the driver, an of- ficer suspected he had been drinking and was arrested. Charged with impaired driving and having 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood is Joe Atallah. ••• A drug possession charge was laid Tuesday morning after a vehicle was pulled over for speeding in a Community Safe Zone on Delrex Blvd. in Georgetown. While speaking with the driver, an of- ficer developed grounds to believe that there was marijuana in the vehicle and made an arrest. Charged with possession under 30 grams is Tim Somerville, 48. Decision time on Norval shale quarry Sept. 8 Brampton Brick Ltd.'s proposal to rezone 86 acres of land on the east side of Winston Churchill Blvd. north of Old Pine Crest Rd. on the Brampton side of Norval, from agricul- tural to mineral extraction for the quarry to extract shale will be considered by the City of Brampton on Monday, Sept. 8. The rezoning application submitted by Brampton Brick Ltd. in 2008 was appealed by the company to the Ontario Municipal Board-- which gets the final say. City of Brampton Planning, Design & De- velopment Committee will be presented with a recommendation report, based on nine tech- nical peer reviewers, to either approve or deny the rezoning of the Norval Quarry from agri- cultural to industrial extraction land use. The meeting begins 7 p.m. in the Council Cham- bers, Brampton City Hall, Fourth Floor, 2 Wel- lington St. W. The report recommends continued refusal of the application, based on continued con- cerns. Wide and diverse opposition to the Norval Quarry is expected at this planning committee meeting, said Janet Kuzniar of pit-STOP, the citizen group trying to stop the proposal. "It is important that as many people from the community attend the Sept. 8 Planning Committee meeting in Brampton City Hall. Brampton Council will be deciding the future of our community, based on what they hear at this meeting from the public and Planning staff," said Kuzniar.
