Call 289-644-2951 today to book an appointment. 2160 Baronwood Dr., Oakville 289-644-2951 Oakville MP John Oli- ver announced Wednesday, June 20, that starting July 20 the federal government will increase the Canada Child Benefit. He said the tax-free monthly payment, which was introduced in July 2016 to help eligible families with the cost of raising children, is being raised to keep up with the cost of liv- ing. "Supporting Canadian families has always been essential to our govern- ment," said Oliver. "I am exceptionally proud of the assistance we have been able to provide to dedicated parents since 2016." Minister of Families, Children and Social Devel- opment Jean-Yves Duclos said the change comes two years ahead of schedule. He noted the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) will now have a maximum an- nual benefit of $6,496 per child under age six and $5,481 per child age six through 17. For a single parent with two children, that means up to $12,992 in support ev- ery year. "The Canada Child Ben- efit has helped millions of middle-class Canadian families since its creation in 2016," said Duclos. "Our government is committed to ensuring that this tax-free benefit contin- ues to help the middle class and those who are working hard to join it. The en- hanced Canada Child Ben- efit will mean more money is on the way next month." Oliver noted that thanks to the CCB, 9 out of 10 Cana- dian families have help af- fording children's necessi- ties and potentially after- school activities such as sports programs and mu- sic lessons. He also said the CCB has lifted more than half a mil- lion people- including 300,000 children- out of pov- erty. Oliver said the average Canadian family has re- ceived almost $2,300 more per year than they did un- der the programs the CCB replaced.
