Through our community meals program, Kerr Street Mission (KSM) is committed to deepening relationships, building community and opening doors to conversation that allow individuals and families to move forward with hope. Last year, KSM served over 25,000 meals to individuals and families in need and 10,000 nutritious snacks to children and youth participating in programs at KSM. All this is possible because of 50 or more volunteer groups and individual volunteers who commit to planning, preparing and serving meals and snacks with great love and care. We are in need of volunteer groups to help prepare, cook and serve a community meal throughout July and August, particularly on Monday and Thursday evenings. We are looking specifically for the following dates: July: Monday 16th, Monday 23rd, Thursday 26th, August: Saturday 11th, Thursday 23rd, Monday 27th, Thursday 30th Your support is greatly appreciated. It is a great opportunity for families, friends, teams or business groups to come together and give back to those in need. If you are interested in learning more about how you can volunteer or help with our COMMUNITY MEALS, please reach out to meals@kerrstreet.com. Thank you again for all your support. The event featured stu- dents from age four to 18 sharing Mother's Day po- ems and performing on pia- no, violin and ukulele as well as voice. The school's director and teacher, Melissa Stolarz, or- ganized the event for stu- dents at the school. "Our students learned the importance of giving back, of sharing their tal- ents with others. It goes be- yond what can be taught in the classroom. This is why it was so important for me to create the Mother's Day per- formance," says Stolarz. "Our students work hard throughout the year and the payoff sometimes isn't about the grades, but the ex- periences that are created." Patients also had the op- portunity to take part in the event, singing familiar tunes together as a group. "We really created some- thing special for all the pa- tients that attended the per- formance. They took away a little more energy and in- spiration than they had be- fore, and that's incredibly valuable," says Stolarz. The Mother's Day per- formance was a highlight to the end of the term for stu- dents who are enrolled throughout the year in aca- demic programming. The students performance showcased musical theatre pieces, classical piano songs, popular duets and pieces from movies. Some summer piano camp members may have the opportunity to perform this summer. Volunteers from theVolunteers from theV school put together more than 50 cards and gift bags for hospital patients. Stu-for hospital patients. Stu-f dents, teachers and friends of the school took time to write a special message on each card or poem and create col- ourful origami flowers. The OSMPA encourages students at the school to participate in community events such as the Oakville Half Marathon, Glen Abbey golf tournaments and tree lighting ceremonies in Oak- ville and Bronte. Singers have also opened games for the Oakville Blades and oth- er local sports teams. The school, celebrating its eighth year in Oakville, also hosts two recitals throughout the year as well as master class workshops.
