After heavy rains Sunday morning, the final day of the annual Ribfest at Sheridan College was cancelled. Ribfest chair Trish Peden said the event had enjoyed good weather through its first six years, with just one day significantly impacted by the weather in 2015. "It's a whole year worth of planning, but it is a weather-driven event and there's nothing we can do about it," Peden said. "We were happy with yesterday and the day before. Given the weather, lots of Oakvil- lians came out fully geared up." Despite rain throughout most of Satur- day, Peden said about 10,000 people braved the weather to get their hands on some of the province's best ribs. And while she was thrilled to see so many people turn out in the rain, it was about half the number of people that would usually attend Ribfest on a Saturday. Nine different ribbers from across the province served up tasty ribs and when the votes were tallied it was London's Boss Hog's that earned top honours. Hogfather was second while Jack the Ribber took third. The Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar, which organizes the event, uses Ribfest to raise funds to help support community projects. "One hundred per cent of the proceeds go back into Oakville, so this hurts tremen- dously," Peden said, "but what we did make still helps."
