No. 897106845RR0001 The former hospital site at 327 Reynolds St., has moved another step toward development. Oakville's Planning and Devel- opment Council voted Monday to approve plans for the residential component of the property and to give municipal staff the go-ahead to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the sale of these lands. The plan calls for 19 single de- tached dwelling lots fronting onto MacDonald Road and Allan Street, as well as 16 townhouse lots internal to the site. The RFP is anticipated to close in early September, with the prop- erty sale expected by the end of the year. "Council's approval marks a significant step forward in the Town's plan," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. "This step ensures that this residential development will be compatible with, and contribute to, the community's existing neighbourhood character and identity." Town staff said a public RFP opens the subdivision lands to the market, ensuring the disposition process is open and transparent and the purchase price is at mar- ket value. Staff said the RFP process would also allow the Town to im- pose controls and conditions on the future development of the sub- division lands. They said this will ensure that development is com- pleted in a timely fashion and is consistent with its planning vi- sion and approvals for the site. In addition, the Town will be is- suing an Expression of Interest (EOI) later this week to develop the senior-oriented housing block. Unlike an RFP, an EOI is to so- licit information from interested respondents and does not consti- tute a solicitation for bids. Staff said with this EOI, the Town is seeking creative ideas, so- lutions, designs and development models for senior housing, which may include repurposing the for- mer Oakville Trafalgar High School building. The EOI closes at the end of August. Following extensive public Following extensive public F NEWS Former Oakville hospital site moves closer to development l See CONSTRUCTION, page 13
