King built his first swimming pool in 1968 and since then, has sold more than 5,000 pools. "The pool industry has changed dramatically in the last 50 years," said King. "When I started, the steel and vinyl pools were in their infancy. The only shape available was a rectangle and the liner pattern available was aqua blue only. Today, we can customize the pool to any size and any shape imaginable." And vinyl liner patterns have expanded to the point where you can suit anyone's taste. Pool automation has also come a long way. Now you can have your pool cleaned via a robotic cleaner. You can even run your pump, heater and lights from your cell phone. Energy efficient equipment has also improved immense- ly. Now, there's a pump that will help heat your pool. Chemical maintenance is becoming easier with new products such as the Clear Blue Mineral Water Ionizer which dramatically reduces the chemicals in the pool and resulting in crystal clear water. Backyard landscaping hasn't been left behind with these changes. "Forty years ago, every pool we installed had a three- foot concrete surround as the patio. Today, landscaping is only limited by the homeowner's imagination. Backyards now have multi-tiered interlock decks, waterfalls, fire-pits, and even outdoor kitchens. Today's backyards are becom- ing the alternative to the cottage without the four hour drive," King explained. The Leisure Industries 10,000 square foot showroom in Oakville has everything an existing or potential new pool owner could possibly desire. You'll see a full sized pool on display along with the most knowledgeable staff in the industry.
