One Oakville resident said he and his wife drove to Bronte Village on the evening of April 28 to visit a local bar. As there was no parking avail- able at the bar he said he parked in the Bronte Sobeys parking lot at 2441 Lakeshore Rd. W. "We arrived at 9:30 p.m. We left the bar at 11 p.m. Our car was miss- ing," he said. "We found out it had been towed. Little did we know (as we were told later that night by Phil's Towing Inc., who towed our car) that the owner of the property started tow- ing cars from that parking lot three weeks ago." The Oakville man said he was charged around $400 to get his car back. He also said the tow truck driver told him that more than 100 vehicles had been towed from the parking lot over those three weeks. Another individual said in late May he parked his vehicle at the same plaza, shopped at Sobeys, brought a few items back to his car and then visited several other re- tailers in the Bronte Village. "Came back 35 minutes later and my car was towed," he said. "I understand if this was the new hospital with people coming from all over, but this is local Oakville residents being treated in a preda- tory fashion." The Bronte Sobeys parking lot is not the only place residents say they are being subjected to predato- ry towing practices. Complaints have been made about vehicles being towed at Bron- te Village's Centriller Square, 2408 Lakeshore Rd. W.
