I went through a similar experience when I parked my car in a plaza at the inter- section of Westoak Trails Boulevard and Bronte Road. I often visit this plaza for a number of purposes, includ- ing frequenting the walk-in clinic, Starbucks and the TD Canada Trust bank branch. I was never aware that there was a time limit being en- forced on longtime parking. forced on longtime parking. f About two months ago, I came back to the spot where I had parked my car and, to my surprise, my vehicle was not there. I called the police who informed me it is likely towed away and suggested that I call the towing compa- ny. The towing company confirmed the car had been towed and could be picked up at a garage on Spears Road. The company representa- tive told me I had 15 minutes to get there with cash pay- ment, otherwise my car would stay in the garage overnight and I would incur an extra charge. At that time I was very up- set as I had no idea whatsoev- er there was such a time re- striction for parking in that plaza, especially after most shops are closed after 9 p.m. I then checked the park- ing area where I parked my car. There was no sign of any kind in front of the parking lot to alert motorists of the towing risk. After searching the plaza all round, I finally found a single sign plate fixed to a stand pipe. It was roughly 20x20 inches and installed on the side of the road as you en- ter the plaza from Baron- wood Drive. It was located in a site that is hardly visible to any person driving into the plaza, specially at night when drivers are trying to concentrate on the road. The sign read there is a towing penalty for cars parked more than three hours. With little time to spare, IWith little time to spare, IW called a taxi and paid the towing company $400 to get my car back. A number of my friends have gone through similar experiences and all ex- pressed deep resentment of this action in other plazas. As much as I give the right to the plaza owners to protect their business inter- est, I don't believe they should go as far as to tow peo- ple's cars, requiring vehicle owners to pay such a large amount to get your vehicle back. I blame the plaza owners for not placing enough signs -for not placing enough signs -f clearly visible signs - as a warning to people. Couldn't they arrange to implement a nominal parking penalty, through co-operation with the police, instead of going to the extent of towing people's vehicles?
