That's why early detection is essential to finding solutions to help your child function to the best of his abilities when it comes to hearing. What are the common signs of hearing loss in chil- dren? "They are basically the same as with adults." explains John Moon, Audiologist and Clinic Manager of Chorus. "Look for children who insist that volume on the TV or radio be turned up higher than is neces- sary, or for kids who often ask you to repeat what you've said to them. In young children, not being able to hear well can affect speech and language de- velopment, so if your child seems behind his peers, it's often recommended to have a hearing test. Cho- rus conducts comprehensive hearing tests for chil- dren as young as 2, which allows parents to know precisely how well their child is hearing." Maybe you are concerned that your child isn't reaching important speech milestones on time, or she's struggling with reading and isn't keeping up with her peers. Perhaps she stutters, or has been di- agnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. In these circumstances, a speech and language assessment can help determine if your child could benefit from therapy sessions.
