The Oakville Chamber of Commerce has released A Road Map for Business Success, a campaign outlin- ing the Oakville business community's priorities for the upcoming 2018 munici- pal election. It builds off a recent ad- vocacy survey conducted by the Oakville Chamber and provides all candidates running with the key issues and priorities facing the lo- cal business community. "The chamber wants to ensure the concerns of the business community are front and centre during this municipal election," said Oakville Chamber presi- dent Drew Redden. "We are highlighting issues for all candidates to focus on, pro- viding a road map for busi- ness success in Oakville." A Road Map for Busi- ness Success, is built on four pillars. Business competitive- ness: Oakville Chamber members identified the top issues impacting business competitiveness as; • Taxation; • Red tape; • Cost of housing. Strengthening the com- petitiveness of the Oakville Business Community must remain a priority for all candidates during this campaign. Transportation: The Oakville Chamber encour- ages the town to work with local business to better un- derstand and track employ- ee commutes of those enter- ing Oakville through the GO network for the last mile of their journey. Seventy-five per cent of survey respondents stated that congestion on Oakville roads is a barrier to their business. Recruit and retain tal- ent: Oakville is home to a world class educational in- stitution and over 300 na- tional and international corporate head offices. We must leverage the talent and opportunity we have in our own backyard. Three in 10 respondents highlighted that recruiting and retaining talent in Oak- ville can be a challenge for their business. Innovation: The cham- ber encourages innovation by partnering with the business and tech commu- nity to pilot projects that drive smart city initiatives. The Lakeshore Road Re- construction and Street- scape Project presents an opportunity to lay the foun- dation for Oakville to be one of the most connected and innovative communi- ties in Ontario. Oakville must leverage the new technology and in- frastructure on Lakeshore to enhance the connectivity across the entire town. Pri- oritizing data collection will enable the town to ana- lyze the opportunities to foster innovation and in- crease efficiency. "The Oakville Chamber encourages all candidates running in the municipal election to take the time to review A Road Map for Business Success and con- sider how their vision will address the priorities out- lined by our business com- munity" said Faye Lyons, vice president of govern- ment relations and advoca- cy at the Oakville Chamber of Commerce. "A prosper- ous business community will help build strong com- munities." In partnership with YourTV and Sheridan Col- lege, the Oakville Chamber will be hosting a mayoral debate in October. In the four weeks leading up to the debate, the chamber will be releasing mayoral candidate statements high- lighting the candidates' vi- sion on how they would ad- dress each of the four pil- lars.
