During the election we committed to cut hydro rates by 12 per cent, and reduce the cost of gasoline by 10 cents a litre. Over the past few weeks we have announced addition- al cost saving measures that will put more money in your pocket. Last week the govern- ment announced that it will be removing the cost of the carbon tax on natural gas, which will take effect on Oct. 1. Oakville families will no longer be taxed to heat their homes, or to feed their fami- lies. This change will help families save about $80 afamilies save about $80 af year, and will help small businesses save around $285 per year. Additionally, our govern- ment has cancelled the driv- er's fee increase that the pre- vious government had planned for Sept. 1. Fees asso- ciated with licence renewal and driver testing will not in- crease. For Oakville residents living paycheque to pay- cheque, this change will allow them to keep even more of the money that they work so hard for. Whether you are driving your kids to soccer games, buying groceries at the local supermarket, or heating your home, our government is committed to finding new ways to make life more afford- able, and help you save the money you worked so hard for. This government is taking a new approach to fiscal man- agement, one that is fair, ef- fective and efficient. We have introduced a line- by-line review as a part of our plan to work with ministries and partners, to ensure pro- vincial programs are effective and efficient. We have launched Plan- ning for Prosperity: A Con- sultation for the People, on- line survey on Ontario.ca that will be active until Sept. 21. This survey will allow the government to hear directly from Ontarians on ways to en- sure the programs and servic- es being delivered by the province are meeting the needs of the people it serves, and on ways for the govern- ment to save money.
