It's a fascinating kind of work that requires sharp observation abilities, meticulous attention to de- tail and a whole swath of technical skills - and for the team of about 24 people who do it in Halton Region, it's about to get even better. Halton police's forensic services unit is getting a brand new lab this month, as the force opens the doors to its brand new headquar- ters on Bronte Road. The new lab will help investiga- tors better maintain the quality of their evidence, meaning more accurate re- sults for cases going to court. "The new lab includes significant changes to how we will protect evidence from contamination orfrom contamination orf cross-contamination," said Staff Sgt. Rhonda Alcock, a former investigator whoformer investigator whof now manages the unit. "It's going to be a huge improve- ment on what we have now." The lab in the old head- quarters is comprised of one large room with sepa- rate workstations, she said, while the new facility will have three distinct labs in different rooms.
