That's because the cast and creative team visited the Oakville and Milton Humane Society (OMHS) to see the many animals the organization helps out. Burl-Oak Theatre Group is a nonprofit community group that believes in giving back to the community, not only in providing entertainment at an affordable cost, but also in fundraising for other local charities. Each pro- duction they choose a charity to donate half the proceeds from 50/ 50 draws. Last year they raised $6,000 for local charities. For its opening production - It's Only A Play, Sept. 27-30, at the Oakville Centre for the Perform- ing Arts - proceeds from the draw will be donated to the OMHS. A rescue dog or puppy from OMHS will also be making a cameo ap- pearance at the end of each per- formance. And, if the dogs aren't reason enough to come out to a perfor- mance, the play itself looks like a lot of fun. It's Only a Play, by Terrence McNally, originally opened in 1982, and on Broadway in 2014, when Matthew Broderick and Stockard Channing were among its all-star cast. It's the opening night of Peter Austin's new play and he anx- iously waits to see if it was a hit by newspaper reviewers. It's been called ridiculous, raucous, ten- der, funny and smart. The local theatre group began rehearsals in July, with Lana Borsellino directing. The group's marketing direc- tor Karen Didow said she thinks people will really enjoy the play, one of three they'll present this year, in addition to their Decem- ber pantomime, which is Aladdin this year, and held in conjunction with the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. "I think people will have a fun night," said Didow, adding that it's good to support community theatre. "Our actors, director and set designers have promised an amazing performance, and there's so much value to this. "It's a fun girl's night out, but men will like it too - it will appeal to all," she said, but noted this is not a family show, and there are disclaimers in the program. Actors in the production are: Lynne Scott as Virginia Noyes; Heather Smith as Julia Budder; Ivan Radulovic as Frank Finger; Tim Cadeny as Peter Austin; Ian Stewart as Gus; Chris Brudlo as Ira Drew, and Peter Churey as James Wick- er. Established in 1976, Burl-Oak Theatre Group is celebrating its 43rd season. It's Only a Play performances are on Thursday, Friday and Sat- urday at 8 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets are $30, available at the box office 905-815- 2021, or online at www.oakville- centre.ca. BURL-OAK THEATRE GROUP'S 'IT'S ONLY A PLAY' BENEFITS HUMANE SOCIETY Burl-Oak Theatre Group presents It's Only a Play Sept. 27-30.
