The Independent & Free Press has posed a question to municipal candidates and over the next several weeks, their responses will be published. Here are the responses filed by the mayoralty candidates in Halton Hills to: What do you consider the primary is- sue in Halton Hills and how would you address it? Some of the many challenges that the Town will face will be the planning of 1,000 acres of growth legislated by Places to Grow Act. We want to make sure that this development when it comes along will integrate nicely with Georgetown while maintaining the small town character. Traffic is an issue. Resolving this will need the Prov- ince, Region and the Town to coordinate solutions. I will continue to advocate for an all-day GO ser- vice. Senior housing developments must be encour- aged at all times. Growth, infrastructure, and fiscal responsibility. Within Places to Grow, the provincial growth plan, our municipality of Halton Hills is forecasted to grow moder- ately, and at a much lower rate than our neighbouring communities of Milton and Brampton. However, even slow managed growth requires road upgrades. Improve- ments to roads that access the west end of the GTA are a necessity for many of our residents both new and existing. It is my goal to improve municipal customer service and streamline processes to assist our entrepreneurs to develop and expand their businesses here in Halton Hills, which, in turn, expands employment opportunity right here. Hospi- tals, sports complexes, seniors centres and skateboard parks are some of the services that define and support our com- munity. Our challenge-- and my commitment-- is to pro- vide them in a fiscally-responsible and cost-efficient manner.
